Trailer Brake Warning Messages On 2019 Ram 2500

Question:

I’m seeing lots of messages and years of problems with these messages with the Dodge Ram trucks. We have a new 2019 2500, with truck/trailer set up. Our 4th time towing it the trailer brakes disconnected came on, then went off, the check trailer brake wiring came on, then disconnected message back on, and no trailer brakes while it’s on. Wiring is connected. Has this ever been figured out? We’re on the road with it now with it doing this.

I have not yet personally heard of this issue on the 2019 Ram 2500 but the error messages you are describing sound like the trailer connection point is not very secure and bumps in the road are causing the pins to lose contact with the terminals. The solution I have for you would be to first check over the trailer wiring for any shorts but if none are found then I recommend replacing the trailer connector with the Pollak Black Plastic, 7-Pole, RV-Style Trailer Connector part # PK12706 and then using the Dielectric Grease for Electrical Connectors part # 11755 on the pins.

If you still continue to have warning messages on your in-dash screen then you will need to take your vehicle in for service.
