Curt Fifth Wheel Hitch Recommendation that Smoother Than E16 Slider

I currently have a Curt E16 fifth wheel with the slider rails. The slider has an extreme amount of slack and I’m not a fan of that. I see the legs for a Q20are cheaper than the E16 legs so I was wondering if I could just buy these and bolt them on my E16 head? Also, if I went to the stationary legs, would the location of the hitch head be moved back any or stay the same?

The Curt E16 slider hitch has a lot of play in the slider assembly like you noted but also quite a bit in the jaw system as it's a slide bar style that allows the king pin to move around quite a bit when latched.

If you wanted a much smoother Curt fixed hitch your best option is the Curt A16 hitch part # C16120. The jaw design of this hitch provides a 360 degree contact with the king pin which holds it very tight and minimizes noise. Now the head will be located right over the rear axle of your truck so if you have a short bed truck and need turning clearance you'd instead want to attach the A16 head part # C16520 to the slider base you already have for an improvement in smoothness.
