Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Controller for 2019 Subaru Ascent

I bought a Prodigy P3 Controller for my Subaru Ascent. The RV dealership installed it, and so I, unfortunately, do not know much about it. But here are my questions... 1 Once it is set, do I need to do anything more with it? Or does it have to be adjusted everytime I plug it in to pull my trailer. I am unplugging it from my Ascent everytime I unhitch my trailer. 2 The wire is very short, so the controller sits down near my feet. I here people talk about manually controlling the brakes of the trailer if it goes into a sway situation, but I honestly dont think I could reach down and grab it fast enough, besides which, I would not be able to watch the road as i adjusted it... How do people handle this, or is it meant to adjust itself? 3 Is there a link to instructions for this thing somewhere? If it came with them, my dealership must have inadvertently kept them. Thank you!

First off, congratulations on your new vehicle!

Now, to answer your questions:

One of the great features of this controller is that it will automatically adjust your trailer's braking based on deceleration of your Ascent. Once installed, you do not need to adjust the settings on the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195 as long as you leave it plugged in. If you unplug the controller, you'll need to go through the initial set-up once again because it assumes the controller is being transferred to a new/different tow vehicle. There is no real reason to disconnect the controller every time you disconnect the trailer. A tiny LED indicator light will remain on but the draw is so minimal it won't make a difference. Leaving the controller plugged in will also ensure you never take off without remembering to plug the controller back in.

We recommend installing the controller under the dash, within arms reach. You need to be able to reach and hold down the manual override button in case of an emergency for immediate braking. The universal pigtail that is included with the P3 is 2 feet long which is more than enough to allow you to run it all the way up under the dash. If your 2019 Subaru Ascent is equipped with a factory tow package and you also purchased the custom wiring adapter , part # 3062-P, you can simply plug it into your existing OEM brake controller connector under the dash and mount the controller there as well. The P3 also features 3 boost levels in case you want a little more aggressive braking power than what it will automatically put out. Think of heavier than normal loads or super windy days.

The P3 includes a very helpful user manual, installation and troubleshooting manual. No worries, I have included a link for you to access anytime along with a link to a video where we review the main features of the Tekonsha Prodigy P3.
