How To Prevent Water From Getting Between Oval Trailer Light and Grommet

Question:

Hi, I have these exact lights mounted in the back corners of a new enclosed cargo trailer that I recently purchased. Unfortunately, I am having major leaks inside of the trailer that is coming in around the the recessed mounting seal/gasket. I have taken the assemblies out of the trailer and reinstalled them and I cant see how these couldnt do anything other than leak when a good rain storm is at hand. The lights arent very tight as the are pressed into the gaskets and the same can be said about the seal as it is installed into the trailer. I personally believe that these recessed lights arent designed to be used in a sealed application that needs to remain dry such as the inside of an enclosed trailer. Your advice and recommendations are greatly appreciated. Short of covering the holes that were cut out of the trailer corner for the recessed mount, I dont know what to do to stop the leaks. Thanks

The Optronics LED Backup Light for Truck or Trailer part # BUL12CB is submersible yes but the fit inside the PVC Grommet part # a70gb is not water tight. Therefore, water could indeed get between the light and grommet but the grommet is not really designed to keep water out but rather just to hold the light in place. However, if you were to add gasket maker like part # LT37467 around the light and inside the grommet that would then give you your best chance of keeping water out.
