Solution for Trailer Right Turn Signal Malfunction When Running Lights Work on 2004 Silverado

I have an 04 Chevy 2500hd and my right blinker on my trailer doesn’t work. The running lights work but not the blinker. I know it’s not on the trailer side cause I’ve tested it with another vehicle was just wondering what else it could be.

9 out of 10 times it's either a blown fuse or a damaged/corroded connector. Check the fuse labeled RT TRLR found in the Instrument Panel Fuse Block on the driver's side of the cab (see photo).

It's very possible that replacing the fuse may get your trailer's light working properly again but if the 7-way plug on your 04 Silverado is the original, chances are it's formed some type of corrosion over the years that could have caused the fuse to blow in the first place. I recommend replacing it with the Hopkins 7- and 4-Pole Trailer Connector Socket # HM40975. This is an inexpensive way to prevent that or any other trailer towing fuse from blowing in the near future.

If your fuse and 7-way appear to be in good working condition then your issue is further back in the wiring. You can test the wiring using a circuit tester # PTW2993 to track down where your problem may be, or, you could bypass it by simply installing a new harness like the Tekonsha Upgraded Modulite Vehicle Wiring Harness Kit with 4 Pole Trailer Connector # 119147KIT. This harness splices directly into your tail light wires.
