Towing Capacity, Trailer Hitch and Trailer Wiring for 2011 Dodge Durango
Question:
Towing capacity for a 2011 Dodge Durango Citadel edition, no factory tow package. We are looking at 2 travel trailers, one is rated at 2890 unloaded and the other one is 2939 unloaded. Can i tow them if i have a tow package installed? Also the Durango has had an aftermarket tranny cooler installed. Thank you.

I found the online owner's manual for a 2011 Dodge Durango and it stated that the maximum towing capacity is 6,200 lbs if you have a 3.6L engine or 7,200 lbs if you have a 5.7L engine, so you will be fine to tow either travel trailer, as I assume both trailers have a GVWR (gross weight - or weight when fully loaded) under those capacities. The Citadel model is a trim package for the Durango and can come with either engine.
For a trailer hitch I recommend going with Draw-Tite as they make the highest-quality products, so the best option for a trailer hitch for your 2011 Dodge Durango is the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75713 which is a simple bolt-on installation and has a 6,000 lb towing capacity and 900 lb tongue weight capacity. When used with a weight distribution system such as the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution # FA92-00-0800 the hitch has a capacity up to 7,500 lbs.
Since you do not have the factory tow package, if you do need a trailer wiring harness to power your trailer's lights the correct fit is the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118552. I have added links to video installs of both the hitch and wiring harness on a Durango for you to check out as well.
