Parts Needed To Tow A Trailer With Brakes 2015 Ford Transit T350

I want to tow a trailer with brakes with my 2020 Ford Transit 350 XLT Wagon and I don't know where to start. What parts do you recommend? The parts I am looking at are the Curt C13193 hitch wiring harness 2114 and brake controller Tekonsha P3. The Transit doesn't have any wiring from factory. Are these good options? Do you recommend anything else?

Expert Reply:

The Curt trailer hitch receiver part # C13193 will work well to tow a trailer with the 2020 Ford Transit XLT Wagon because it does provide the most towing capacity available. I have attached an installation video for your reference.

I do recommend the Tekonsha OEM Replacement Vehicle Wiring Harness w Brake Controller Adapter part # 22114 which will give you a fully functional 7-Way plug at the rear of the Ford Transit. The other end of the wiring harness plugs into the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 that you reference part # 90195 which is a great brake controller.

The Prodigy P3 features 5 storable settings that allow you customize the controller for multiple trailers and drivers. If you tow more than 1 trailer then you will not need to change the settings every time you hook up a new trailer to the Transit. It also features a LCD display screen that displays easy to read troubleshooting codes if something happens to go wrong with the wiring compared to other brake controllers that use abbreviations that are hard to decipher.

I also recommend a Mounting Bracket for 7-Way part # 18138 with the no drill part # C57202 to allow you to mount the plug without drilling into the vehicle.

In summary you need the following parts:

Trailer Hitch- # C13193
Wiring Harness- # 22114
Brake Controller- # 90195
Brackets- # 18138 and # C57202
