Roof Rack and Kayak Carrier Recommendation for Sun Dolphin Journey Kayaks on Chevy Silverado

Question:

Good afternoon, I am looking for a setup for 2 Sun Dolphin Journey 12foot kayaks on the roof of our 2016 Chevrolet Silverado High Country 2500 Crew Cab. I tow a travel trailer camper with the truck and always have a full bed and a bed cover, so I cant use anything but a roof system. I had a strap on carrier but it just slid around all the time and just didnt seem to be safe. Which rail systems and kayak carriers do you guys recommend? Thanks

Starting with the roof crossbar system for your 2016 Chevy Silverado Crew Cab I highly recommend the Rhino-Rack Vortex setup that consists of # RRVA150B-2 for the two 59" Vortex Crossbars in Black or # RRVA150S-2 for Silver, # RRRLKVA for Mounting Legs, and # DK415 for the Custom Fit Kit.

This is going to provide you with a sturdy roof rack that can support up to 165 pounds it's going to be really quiet on the road because of the aero-style design on the bars. I really like the Rhino-Rack systems because I feel like they give you a product on par with those from the "higher-end" manufactures but at a fraction of the cost.

Then with the crossbars in place I recommend using two of the etrailer Rooftop Kayak Carriers #e98878 for both of your kayaks. This saddle-style carrier is perfect for larger kayaks like your Sun Dolphin Journey's and their 150 pound weight capacity (each) is more than enough for them, which based on my research weigh around 50 pounds each. This design also lets you push the kayaks up from the rear of your Silverado instead of lifting up and over the side for an easier overall loading process.

All the needed tie-down straps are also included with the carrier.

I have attached a couple short video reviews on these products that you can check out as well.
