2019 Ford Ranger LED Tailgate Light Causes Trailer Light Out Error Code and Disables Backup Camera

Hi, I got a new 2019 ford ranger with a tow package and has both connectors, but when i add a tailgate light i loose all my backup camera lines and get error code of trailer light out. will this T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 7-Way Trailer Connector Item # 22124 correct this problem?

I have a solution for you but the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 7-Way Trailer Connector # 22124 will not work since it connects to the same tow package port your existing factory 7 and 4-way connector plugs into.

When you plug in a tailgate bar, like # BLS-1103 (or any accessory that uses lights) into your factory wiring, it tells your vehicle that there is a trailer connected, which is why it disables the backup camera lines, as you mentioned. Otherwise, the sensors would constantly be warning you that you're in close proximity to another object and also the logic behind it is that when your Ranger is connected to a trailer, you have no use for the backup cameras anymore since the rear of your vehicle is extended to the rear of the trailer.

On the other hand, because LED lights draw such low amperage (much less than incandescent), it's causing your truck to think that a trailer light must be out, which is why you're seeing the error code on your dash. This is fairly common on European vehicles, so the solution is to use an adapter with built-in resistors, like # TR20141.

The only way to bypass your factory trailer wiring is to connect directly to the tail light wiring. Since there isn't a plug and play option for your 2019 Ford Ranger, the only option is to splice into them. For that I recommend # C58345, which includes the 4-Pole plug with a 60 inch lead, as well as the quick splice connectors and mounting bracket with hardware. This would take care of both the error code and the backup camera issues since you wouldn't be sending any signals through the factory tow port.

While we don't have an installation video for the # C58345, you can watch the video I attached at the bottom of the page, which is for a different product that installs in much the same way. This explains how to remove the tail light assembly and goes over the testing process to find the correct wire functions on a 2019 Ford Ranger, like yours.
