Can Trailer Brake Controller Be Installed on 2019 Toyota Highlander
Question:
Hi. I have a 2019 Toyota Highlander. I will be towing a trailer soon that has electric brakes. Can a brake controller be installed on this vehicle? Can you recommend what I would need? Thanks so much for your help.

You can absolutely install a trailer brake controller on your 2019 Toyota Highlander, and the components you need will just depend on what the vehicle's already equipped with.
If you don't have any trailer wiring at all installed at the rear then you need to start with a 4-Way harness. For this I highly recommend the Tekonsha T-One # 118449 if you don't have the factory tow package (no converter under the dash) or the Curt T-Connector # 56042 if it does have the factory towing package. Both options will simply plug into an existing port beneath the spare tire compartment in the rear cargo area.
Once you have the 4-Way connector installed (or if you had one already) it needs to be upgraded to a 7-Way for use with a brake controller. For this I recommend using the Wiring Kit # ETBC7L along with the Curt Echo Brake Controller # C51180.
The Wiring Kit includes everything you need to easily upgrade to the required 7-Way connector, while the Curt Echo allows for a really simple install and operation. It just gets plugged into the 7-Way and is paired to your smart phone via Bluetooth. You will then use your phone to adjust any settings or apply the manual override, so you don't need to mount or wire in an additional component inside your Highlander. This also makes it really easy to switch it between different tow vehicles if needed.
I have attached a video demonstration of the Echo being used on your 2019 model Highlander that you can also check out.
