Is Larger Load Range Tire Okay for 1992 Coleman Trailer

Question:

Tire for 1992 Coleman Fleetwood trailer. I believe that the original tires were load range C. Want to know if load range E will be ok on the trailer. Base axle weight is 1410 - gross axle weight with gear is 1810.

Yes, you can use a larger load range tire, like a load range E tire on your 1992 Coleman trailer, so long as the tire fits your current wheel and you have enough clearance (3" from the top of the tire to the fender and 1" from the inside of the tire to your frame rail).

For example, if you have 12" wheels and your trailer uses ST145/12 tires, you can swap to the Kenda Karrier S-Trail ST145/R12 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range E # AM10140.

If you don't have 12" wheels you will also need new wheels, which depends on your bolt pattern, which is likely 4 on 4" or 5 on 4-1/2" so you could use a wheel like the Dexstar Trailer Wheel # AM20151 (5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern) or # AM20140 (4 on 4" bolt pattern). If you aren't sure of your bolt pattern I've added a link to a help article which determines how to find it.

I have also added a link to a video review of this tire as well as a link to our entire selection of tires and wheels for you to take a look at.

Question:

Kyle recommended a radial tire to replace the OEM bias ply 20.5 x 8 x 10 tire that came with that particular model. After a bit of research on my end that does seem like a better option. Do you know of any reason to stick with the original tire over the radial? I believe that he recommended a Kendra Karrier tire that measures 21.3" in diameter to replace the bias ply tires. I assume that there will still be plenty of clearance with that slightly bigger tire. He also sent me a link to some rims. My questions to you is - if I purchase both the rims and the tires will you mount them before shipping? I would need to get three to replace the spare also.

Good questions, and the radial tires are much better than bias because they flex more and stay cooler when driving on paved roads, which leads to fewer blowouts so they are definitely the best tires for a camper like your Coleman Fleetwood.

And although the Kenda Karrier S-Trail ST145/R12 Radial Trailer Tire # AM10140 I recommended for you does not come mounted to the Dexstar Steel Mini Mod Trailer Wheel # AM20140 (4 on 4" bolt pattern) or # AM20151 (5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern), there is an option to get this tire come already mounted on a wheel.

The Kenda Karrier S-Trail ST145/R12 Radial Tire with 12" Aluminum Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2" - Load Range E # AM31215 is the only load range E ST145R/12 tire and wheel combo that comes mounted, but there are numerous load range D options for this tire, which have a 1,220 lb load capacity. The following are the options (depending on your bolt pattern) and I have added some links for video reviews as well.

- Kenda Karrier S-Trail ST145/R12 Radial Tire with 12" White Spoke Wheel # AM35351DX (4 on 4" bolt pattern) or # AM31199DX (5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern)

- Kenda KR25 ST145R12 Radial Trailer Tire with 12" Aluminum Wheel # AM31208 (4 on 4" bolt pattern) or # AM31206 (5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern)
