Can Weight Distribution Spring Bars be Pointed Up on the Trailer End and Still Work Properly

When the trailers is hook to the truck and off trailer jack should the spring bars be level or does it hurt or effect towing if they or at a angle upward from truck to trailer

Expert Reply:

When ready to tow (trailer off of the jack) the spring bars should be level with the trailer frame which should be level with the ground (assuming a flat surface). Having the bars pointed too far up or down can render them ineffective and can cause the bars to contact the trailer frame in some cases. This could bend the bars or cause them to fall off.

If you need to add more than 5 links of chain on chain hanging systems, it is fine to do so as long as the bars are level with the trailer frame.

You may have the head unit in the system adjusted to bar towards the truck. Tilting down towards the trailer also will help. Getting the system just right takes some trial and error. I have included a link to the installation instructions for # RP66074 which covers the adjustments you can make.

I ahve also included a link to a video that should help you.
