Most Secure Way to Carry 3 Bikes on a 2014 Toyota RAV4

Are the fabric straps the only thing holding the rack to the car? Could bike burglars cut the straps and get all the bikes and the rack together?

There are a couple security features with the Yakima FullBack 3 Bike Rack # Y02633. To start, the nylon straps are reinforced to make them much more difficult to cut, so that makes it a little bit more difficult than just cutting them off quickly and taking the whole rack. The most important feature on this rack is that there is a fully steel reinforced security cable that stores inside the trunk for another layer of security, and would take a great deal of time to try to cut through. Pairing these 2 features with the integrated lock that locks the last bike on the rack to the physical rack makes it extremely difficult for anyone to walk off with everything.

With that being said, with enough time and determination, there is no bike rack that is truly 100% theft proof and it's recommended that you don't leave the rack on your car when it's not in use. The FullBack 3 comes with an integrated cable lock to lock the bikes to the rack for an added layer of security and will definitely make it harder for someone to walk off with everything.

If you're looking for a more secure solution, you may want to consider a hitch mounted bike rack, which can be locked to the receiver on the hitch. If you don't already have a hitch, the etrailer # e98864 provides you with a great option that will bolt into the existing holes on your vehicle frame for an easy installation. This will allow you to use a hitch mounted bike rack like the Yakima RidgeBack # Y02458, which comes with bolt a locking hitch pin.
