Reducing Transmission Heat While Towing With a 2012 GMC Sierra

Question:

I have a 2012 GMC Sierra 1500 Extended Cab 4WD Standard Box configured with the 5.3L V8 K5L HD Cooling Pkg., 3.42 axle ratio, rated at 9600 lbs. conventional trailering and a CGCWR of 15000 lbs. I will be towing a 2-axle 20ft box 24ft cargo trailer with an unloaded weight 3200lbs and a max weight of 9800 lbs. Obviously due to CGCWR considerations, I will not be carrying any more than 4500-5000 lbs. of cargo. That said, while my truck is rated for this kind of weight and is equipped with the HD Cooling Pkg. which includes a remote oil and transmission cooler I have noticed higher transmission temps 190-205 when pulling 5000-6000lbs over elevated terrain. My question is, can the D13950 be installed in conjunction with my stock cooler and is this my best consideration for keeping my transmission in a happier place 150-190? Are their other considerations I am missing? Thank you for your time and consideration.

Absolutely! The Derale Atomic-Cool Remote Transmission Cooler Kit w/ Fan, -6 AN Inlets - Class V part # D13950 is the perfect add on to bring those transmission temperatures down for you. It will install and work in conjunction with your original cooler and will have no adverse effects on the original one. This is simply going to help in addition to the original making for a cooler running system.

This one is the one I would go with as the fan is going to do a better job at cooling than just a passive cooler would.
