The installation of a trailer hitch such as the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 13077 which is what I recommend for a 2014 BMW X5 will require you to remove the rear bumper fascia which does house the reverse sensors. That said, the sensors themselves will not be removed rather left on the bumper. In order to free the rear bumpier fascia however you must remove a pigtail which contains the circuits for the reverse sensors but this is very easy to do. I have attached an install video for you that shows the bumper removal process as well as the pigtail you must undo at around the 4:44 second mark.
Please note, the pigtail will be reinstalled after the trailer hitch is attached and you will once again have fully functional reverse sensors.
