Difference Between etrailer Branded Class III Trailer Hitches for 2020 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited

I'm looking at the Etrailer e98835 hitch for my 2020 Wrangler Unlimited. I see you also offer what looks to be EXACTLY the same hitch as e98856. Is one a new version and one an old? What's the difference? Hitches usually have a bar running across that attaches to the frame, but there doesn't seem to be much to either of these... is it weaker than a traditional hitch?

There's a subtle yet important difference between the two. The receiver tube on the # e98856 is right at 3 inches longer than that of the # e98835. This means that most hitch mounted accessories such as bike racks or cargo carrying trays will clear a stock sized spare tire, which is a great feature. There's not much of a price differential between the two, so there's not much reason not to get the # e98856 with the longer tube.

As far as strength goes, the hitches actually tie into the rear bumper beam which is extremely strong so you'll have no worries there. Both hitches have a 3500 lb towing/350 lb tongue weight capacity which matches the towing capacity of the Wrangler itself. Plenty strong.

If you need a trailer wiring harness, you can install one using # 118786. If your Wrangler Unlimited is on stock sized tires, you can use a # 2923 ball mount and # 19261 for a 1-7/8 or # 63845 for a 2 inch trailer ball. If you have larger tires, I'll link you to a help article that shows how to determine the ball mount drop you'd need.

I've linked to the installation instructions and videos for you.
