Best Fifth Wheel Hitch for my 2019 Ford F-250 Short Bed with a Jayco Eagle

Question:

I have recently purchased a 2019 Ford F250 short bed with the 5th wheel prep package. I have owned a 2003 F250 short bed where I towed my 5th wheel camper with a BandW Patriot 5th wheel stationary hitch. My mid profile Jayco Eagle has a Mor/Ryde pinbox on it. I have never had an issue with clearance between the truck and trailer. It is close when turning as tight as possible in the forward direction but have not found myself having to stop what I was doing due to cab clearances. Will the cab clearance be close to the same using the M5 Ford puck system? Which position would you recommend fwd/aft for the initial bolting together of the new hitch? Is there a common height to try on the initial setup also? highest or lowest I really want to take advantage of the OEM puck system, therefore I am purchasing a new system. I really like my BandW patriot system of old and want a new hitch that will perform equally or better than it when towing for longer distances. I appreciate your thought and input. Thank you

I really like the Reese M5 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part # RP30921 that you looked at. This will give you adjustment up and down for camper to bed clearance. On initial set up I would choose the second from top option with the higher bed sides of your F-250.

A slight upgrade would be the B&W Companion OEM 5th-Wheel Hitch for Ford Super Duty Prep Package part # BWRVK3300. This uses a superior 360 degree contact jaws to ensure nice smooth operation. It is really easy to use as well. With this one you will get both up and down adjustment again I would go with the second from the top. The big advantage especially with you having a camper that allows you not to use a slider is that it also allows you to move the fifth wheel heads position rearward 3" during the initial set up which you will want to do.

Of the two I pick the B&W, it is as good a hitch as you can get plus gives you a little extra wiggle room.
