How to Correctly Position Ramp Door Spring for Installation

Question:

Carla The unit has right and left marked on the torsion springs but not the black or red on the pulley wheels. Does right go on driver side of trailer or curb side? I don't want to install and find the orientation wrong when I set the springs. Many thanks

The spring with the black cable drum should always be mounted to your LEFT, standing on the inside of the trailer looking out. This is very important for proper operation. Dual spring systems, like # ERS160D96, have a red-coned and a black-coned spring so pay close attention to the colors.

If the system is mounted upside down, the spring will grow in diameter when the system is wound. If the system is mounted properly, the springs should grow in length. You should be able to see the springs go down the tube they are mounted on as each spring is wound.

The left and right markings on the ramp spring are always assuming you're standing on the inside of the trailer looking out. So, left means passenger side and right means driver side. I confirmed this with my contact at M-3 for you.
