Could Hitch Portion of Darby Hitch Extender Fit on 2014 Jeep Wrangler
Question:
Darby Extend-A-Truck Kayak Carrier w/ Hitch Mounted Load Extender and Single-Bar Roof Rack Item # DTA944-968-924 Looking at this part to match with a windshield mounted rack on the front of my wrangler. I want to use the receiver hitch mount but it appears as though I would have to remove my spare tire to use this item, all photos show this used with a pickup. Is there a way to mount this to the existing receiver hitch and extend far enough to go beyond the spare tire on my jeep? I would not use the roof rack, so is the receiver hitch mount sold as a separate item so I wouldnt have to get the matching roof rack? How wide is the cross piece that would hold the kayak, it appears to be an inch or so.

Just the hitch portion of the Darby Extend a Rack part # DTA944-968-924 is available with just part # DTA944.
I attached a picture that shows the clearance it has to fit past the rear spare. 9-1/2 inches from the pin hole out to your rear spare is the most your setup could have. But if you could replace your factory hitch with the # DT78MR you would have the clearance.
