How to Determine Correct Replacement Hub for Coleman Pop-Up Camper

Question:

Hi, Ive got a hub on a small Coleman pop-up trailer. Its 5 bolts/lugs. The only markings on the hub are 089350 and 3624. Based on those can you tell me what bearings, races and grease seals I would need? Also, if you have a hub replacement kit that would be helpful as well. Please let me know if you need further dimensions or pictures. Id rather not take it apart at this time if I can avoid it. Thankss

I can absolutely understand not wanting to take your hub apart to find the right replacement hub, but unfortunately that is the only option as the numbers you referenced are not any type of indicator of a replacement.

So, to determine the correct hub you will need to take apart your current hub assembly and look at the bearings; wipe away the grease and you should be able to see the part number stamped directly on them. If you are unable to find them, you need to use Digital Caliper # 301-17068 and measure your spindle to the thousandths of an inch where the bearings and grease seal ride. You can also use the photo I've attached to see exactly where you need to measure.

For a replacement hub, you also need to know your hub's wheel bolt pattern; if you do not know what it is I have added a help article which details how you can find it, as well as a printable bolt hole template you can use. If you get back to me with this information I'd be happy to try and help you find the correct hub. Otherwise, I've added a link to our entire selection of hubs for you to come back to.

Question:

Thanks Kyle. Both bearings are L44649. The grease seal has an outer diameter of 1.980 and an inner diameter of 1.354 it seems like those are close but not exact to the standard seal measurements so Im assuming it depends on how much pressure you put on the caliper when measuring. The inner diameter of the hub opening is 1.980 as well on both sides. The bolt pattern is 5 on 4 1/2. From there can you tell me which grease seal I need, and then also what replacement hub kit would be recommended? Thanks

Thanks for all that information, and I can get you down to two potential options, but the issue is the grease seal measurement. As you mentioned, the inner diameter of 1.354 is not a measurement of a standard grease seal, or hubs with your bearings - it's actually right in between two options. Instead of measuring the seal, I recommend measuring the spindle where the seal rides to make absolutely sure you get the right fit.

From there, you have two options for hubs, both of which meet all of your other criteria: inner and outer bearings # L44649, hub bore of 1.98" and 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern. The bearings, races and seals are included with all of the hubs. One of the hubs will also depend on the size of your wheels:

- Grease Seal inner diameter 1.50" and 8" to 12" wheels: Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 2K Axles # AKIHUB-545-2-2K

- Grease Seal inner diameter 1.50" and 13" to 15" wheels: Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 2K Axles # AKIHUB-545-2-LF-2K

- Grease Seal inner diameter 1.249" and up to 14" wheels: CE Smith Trailer Hub Assembly for 2,700-lb Axles # CE13311

I have added links to video reviews of these parts for you to check out as well.
