Question:
im interested in the Swagman QUAD 2+2. I am looking for something to carry 4 bikes behind my 5th wheel. The hitch on my 5th wheel is rated for 300lbs. I noticed that the listing shows this rack works for motorhomes but not for 5th wheels or travel trailers. Is that a recommendation or law? I prefer the platform but want to make sure it is safe and legal for my application. Thanks for explaining and any recommendations.

Great question!
The stipulation about not using the Swagman Quad 2+2 2-Bike and 4-Bike Platform Rack # S64FR is a decision from Swagman. It isn't necessarily a law, but basically if you use this on a 5th wheel and some damage happens then it wouldn't be covered under warranty. Since 5th wheel trailer hitches have more play than a trailer hitch on a passenger vehicle or motorhome the bike rack will be under more stress, so bike rack manufacturers will only say that certain ones should be used for 5th wheel and travel trailers.
If the warranty is a big deal to you and you want something that is tested and approved for use on a 5th wheel trailer by the manufacturer then I recommend looking at the Thule Range 4 Bike RV Rack # TH9057. This is a hanging style rack but it can hold 37.5 lb bikes and has 7" spacing between the cradles to help making loading/unloading easier.
