How to Carry Two Kayaks on 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 Extended Cab

Question:

I want to carry 2 kayaks on my truck 2014 GMC Sierra, 1500 Ext. Cab, with a BAK tonneau cover. Does the DTA944-968-924 rack fit any J style Kayak carriers as my kayaks are 29 inches in width each? I am not sure I could even lift the kayaks high enough to use a J style, so perhaps some type of roller application may work. Is there another way I can do this? I have looked at Thule ladder systems, Yakima systems, and others. Looking for good advice.

So the Darby Extend-A-Truck Kayak Carrier with Hitch Mounted Load Extender and Single-Bar Roof Rack # DTA944-968-924 isn't going to be wide enough for a pair of 29 inch kayaks, unless they really taper off significantly at the front and rear.

The best option really is going to be a roof rack with two J-style carriers, but since you mentioned possibly not being able to lift the kayaks up, you'll need a load assist. That is a lot of parts, so I'll list the recommend ones for you that give you the best value, starting with the roof rack for your 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 Extended Cab:

- Round 66" CrossBars for Yakima Roof Rack System # Y00410
- BaseLine Towers for Yakima Crossbars # Y28TR
- BaseClip Fit Kit for Yakima BaseLine Roof Rack Towers # Y06122
- RoundBar SL Adapter # Y03536

For a pair of kayaks I recommend two of the etrailer J-Style Kayak Carrier # e98878 and for a load assist the Rhino-Rack Universal Load Assist # RR-RUSL.

These will give you a secure and easy way to carry two kayaks on your 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. I have added links to video reviews for you to check out as well.
