Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution Arms for 850 lb Tongue Weight

Question:

Thank you for the guidance. I will get the other bars ordered. As far as the helper springs, will this affect the unloaded ride quality? There seems to be mixed opinions regarding this. Also, will the 1000# springs (SSR-307-40) provide the support that I need while allowing less of a chance that the unloaded ride quality would be impacted? Thank you in advance for your reply.

I'm glad you trust us, and we can definitely help you out so you can enjoy your voyage instead of being understandably anxious about the sway. While there is always going to be at least a bit of sway, it should not be to the degree you were describing, and the reason you are experiencing that is because the spring bars for your Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution Hitch # BXW0750 are not rated high enough.

That system is designed for total tongue weights (TTW) between 550 lbs and 750 lbs, which you are well over, but the good news is that you can add the appropriately rated arms without changing anything else out. What you will need for an 850 lb tongue weight are the Replacement Spring Bars for Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution System # BXW4007.

These bars are designed for TTW between 750 lbs and 1,000 lbs so they will perform for your 850 lb TTW. I also recommend suspension enhancement, the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs # SSR-307-47.

These area fit for your 2020 Ram 1500 and compress independently to further reduce sway. The addition of the bars and the SumoSprings will do a really good job of helping you enjoy the next journey you take with your camper. I've added links to video reviews for you to check out as well.

That's a good question, and it is possible for either the 1,000 lb capacity SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs # SSR-307-40 or 1,500 lb capacity SumoSprings # SSR-307-47 have a chance to affect unloaded ride quality when going over particularly rougher roads and the like due to the spring being longer than the factory bump stop it replaces. There will still be a space in between the SumoSpring and the axle which is why it will not always be affecting the ride, and only on occasion.
