Correct 16,000 lb Reese Goose Box for Lippert 1621 Pin Box

Question:

I was able to get additional information and hopefully this will help in deciding which Reese Gooseneck box to purchase. Unfortunately the fifth wheel and I are not in the same province and out of province travel is not permitted due to Covid-19. I have had to rely on the dealership providing the following. There are two pictures attached . The second picture shows it is a Lipert kingpin but does not show a model number but has a reference as LCI 190739639. The first picture I used to determine that it was a long pin in your schematic for measurements. The measurements I was able to have the dealership send me are attached as well. These measurements were 2A - 8 inches 2B - 2 1/4 inches called as they measured incorrectly at first as shown in the attachment 3A - 17 3/4 inches 3B - 25 3/4 inches 3C - 12 inches 2F - shows 5 bolts with holes for six I do hope this is sufficient for you to provide direction on which Reese Gooseneck box 16,000lb to order. As soon as I receive a response I will place an order. Thanking you in advance for your assistance

Thank you for those measurements, they were perfect, and we do have the exact Reese Goose Box you need. What your measurements show is that you have a Lippert 1621 pin box, so the 16,000 lb Goose Box you need is:

- Reese Goose Box # RP94716

This Goose Box is going to be a great upgrade for your trailer and give you a way to very comfortably tow your fifth wheel with your gooseneck hitch.

Question:

I have one other item I'd be interested in your opinion. In addition to the Gooseneck box I will be ordering either the BWGNXA2062 or RP30140. Do you have a suggestion between the two. Chains #49150. I am also considering whether I should use an offset goose hitch ball (4 or 5 inches) since I do not have an eight foot box. Your opinion counts. Thanks

The Safety Chains # 49150 will work with the Reese Goose Box # RP94716, and will also fit either the Reese Elite Series Pop-In Ball Kit # RP30140 or the B&W Ball and Safety Chain Kit # BWGNXA2062.

And though either will work for you, when it comes to quality, B&W really does stand out above the rest. We also prefer the B&W gooseneck ball because it has a handle that makes it easier to install and remove in the bed than the Reese ball, which has a plastic handle on top of the ball. Additionally, the Reese chain attachments for the puck system can be troublesome for some because they are wider than most. So between the two I do recommend the B&W Ball and Safety Chain Kit # BWGNXA2062.

There is not an offset gooseneck ball that fits the puck system of your 2018 Ram 3500, though I can give you a formula that will let you know if you can make a full 90 degree turn or not, which should be useful information for you.

You will use this formula: (A + B) - C = Clearance

A = Distance from center of gooseneck ball to truck cab
B = Length of offset (this will be zero for the Goose Box and no offset ball)
C = Width of trailer divided by 2

If "Clearance" equals 4 you will be able to make a 90 degree turn. And although it is probably unlikely you'll be able to make a 90 degree turn, that sharp of a turn is rarely absolutley necessary and you will have plenty of room for normal driving.
