Extension to Use Thule Helium Platform Bike Rack on 2020 Mercedes Benz G63 with Rear Spare Tire

Hi, I have a 2020 Mercedes G63. I want to put a bike rack thinking Thule Helium Platform on the back. I need to clear the wheel on back which is 12” off the car. Which extension should I get that is high quality and won’t rattle. Also would like your perspective on the Thule helium. Thanks

First of all the Thule Helium platform rack, part # TH44VR, is a great rack. Probably my favorite wheel mount hitch rack we carry. The tilt and folding feature is super easy to use, the bikes can easily be staggered without having to move the wheel trays making them easier to load and the rack just plain looks nice. I've linked a demonstration video of it on a Jeep which also has a rear spare like your 2020 Mercedes Benz G63.

In the video you can see we used just a standard hitch extender but that's not what I recommend for you. Your G63's rear door swings to the side so instead I'd use the Access Swing Away # TH9037. It's an extension but also adds a swinging feature so the rack can be completely out of the way letting you access your rear cargo area. You don't even have to unload the bikes. It also includes an anti-rattle hitch pin to take out the rattle of having an extra piece in the setup.

Additionally the Access and the rack both have locks but they won't come keyed alike. Get the 4-pack of Thule's lock cores, part # TH450200, and you can use them for the locks on each bike, the rack, and the extension all keyed the same.
