For the factory brake controller on your 2017 Chevy Silverado 1500, the factory brake controller will install to the same location as an aftermarket wiring harness like # 3016. The black box to the left of your brake pedal is the location with the middle left shown in the video being the plug location within that box. I have heard that if your vehicle did not come with the factory brake controller it can't be added (which would explain it not working), but I'm not confident about that because we don't deal with the factory unit being installed as many customers want to replace it with an aftermarket unit. One of our installers said the dealer needs to activate the brake controller through the PCM for the factory controller.
You will need to either remove an aftermarket pigtail to install the factory wiring or you will need to alter the aftermarket controller to connect the factory controller based on function.
My recommendation is to use the # 3016 and Prodigy P3 # 90195 for a great controller. If you want a cleaner looking install, then you can use # 3016-S and Tow Pro Elite # RED44FR.
