Can I Use My 5th Wheel If I Have A BakFlip MX4 Tonneau?

Question:

Can I use the bakflip mx4 in the furthest folder position with a fifth wheel hitch on a 2020 Ford F-250 6’9” bed. Is there sufficient clearance. Can you provide the bed space it takes up in this position both height and length?

We do have tonneau covers that will be better when hauling a 5th wheel. Folding covers are not the best option because when folded up it sits above the bed rails quite a bit. This could result in damage to your trailer, the tonneau and your 2019 Ford F-250 when taking tight turns. If you really like the Bakflip MX4 you will need to remove the cover from the truck and keep it in the bed out of the way.

A better type tonneau option would be a retractable tonneau and the Pace Edwards SwitchBlade Part # 311-SWFA18A44 would be my choice. I like this tonneau because it is super low profile and doesn't take up a whole lot of space in the bed. You have the security of a hard tonneau and still get to use your 5th wheel. Comparing it to the Bakflip MX4 it is a lot quicker to close and open the tonneau.

I've included a review video that Randy put together. He does a good job going over all the features and such so check it out to learn more!

I am replacing a Fold-A-Cover that is 3-1/2” above the rail and came with my 2015 2500HD 6-1/2 bed. My 5th wheel did not have any clearance issue. Is the MX 4 comparable?

@Dave The BAKFlip MX4 # BAK48121 is almost flush with the bedrails so you could run into clearance issues, depending on how high the hitch head sits. There really isn't an option available for that kind of height anymore because most people are wanting a flush profile. We have a few options that will sit right at the top of the bedrails but they're soft roll-up covers.
