Parts Needed to Fat Tow a 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Question:

Hi, I have a Roadmaster Eagle 8000 towbar on my RV and would like to use it to tow my new to me 2014 Jeep Cherokee. I was going to order baseplates RM-521447-4, the Demco braking system SM99251, a brake light relay kit RM-88400, and the Hopkins custom tail light kit HM56208. As mentioned I have a towbar and safety cables. Is there anything missing from my list?

If your Cherokee is the 4x4 model with the 2 speed transfer case, it is capable of being flat towed.

The Roadmaster # RM-521447-4 (for non-Trailhawk models) and the # HM56208 wiring harness are certainly compatible with your vehicle and tow bar. The Demco # SM99251 works great for motorhomes with hydraulic brakes. 2014-2017 Cherokee models will need a dealer only 68321424AB wiring harness installed to correct the so-called 'death wobble' that can occur when the vehicle is flat towed. The braking system needs access to the stop lamp circuit so its monitor can alert you when the vehicle brakes are being applied. Using the # RM-751471 will prevent the need to physically cut and splice into the brake circuit. Because the brake system will draw battery power, a charge line kit, part # RM-156-25 is also recommended.

When installed, the base plates will be situated about 17-1/2 inches above the ground, assuming stock ride height and tire size. If this height is +/- 3 inches of the motorhome hitch height, you'll need a high/low adapter. I'll link to our help article and listing of available adapters.

I've linked to insatllatioln videos for the products mentioned above.
