It sounds like you're trying to add a weight distribution hitch to your trailer, so you don't actually need to use the Curt # C45902 with it.

In most cases you can get a weight distribution hitch that comes with a shank included, like the Curt Tru-Track # C17501 which is designed for trailers with a tongue weight of 1000-lbs and 1500-lbs. There are some that do not come with the shank included, so you'll want to choose one that does where possible as long as you don't need one with a significant rise/drop.
