Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 2009 Scion xB

Question:

What hitch size do you recommend for the XB? I was going to get the class 2 but I did not know if that was overkill for the capacity of the XB? What is the towing capacity?

When there is an option always go for the highest Class hitch for any given vehicle. A higher class hitch will allow you more options for accessories like bike racks and cargo carriers in addition to greater towing capacity. For a 2009 Scion xB we have Class II trailer hitch # 12490. The towing capacity of the hitch is 350 pounds tongue weight and 3,500 pounds gross trailer weight. I have included a link to the instructions and a video for you.

The towing capacity of a vehicle can change depending on how it is equipped. The owners manual should have all of the towing information. I did some research and found that a lot of people tow with the xB but they also mention that Scion says not to. You will need to consult the owners manual and/or a Scion dealer to determine if you can tow. If you can tow with the xB and the capacity is lower than the hitch you have to go by the lower rating.

For trailer wiring use # 118468. The hitch comes with a ball mount, pin and clip. For a 1-7/8 inch ball use # 19256 and for a 2 inch ball use # 19258.
