Safest, Easiest And Most Compatible Roof Mounted Cargo Basket To Use On A Vehicle

Question:

I have a Honda CR-V 2018 and I cant decide if this is safe for it. I see 64inch racks that require 29.7inch cross bar spacing for it. This one seems to be okay with 15inch or 22inch apart or is that only for the non extended version?

Most roof racks will have spacing around 15", 22" and 29" in most cases so I don't think you'll have issues mounting the Curt Roof Mounted Cargo Basket # C18115-117 on your 2018 Honda CR-V.

If you are still concerned about mounting the basket safely, I HIGHLY recommend getting the Thule Canyon XT cargo basket because it is designed to fit crossbars that are spread anywhere between 20" and 37" instead of set amounts.

This basket is more aerodynamic design and looks better in my opinion. With the Thule Canyon you have the option to add an extension # TH8591XT that will add 20 inches to the overall length of the basket. This basket carrier is 49" Long x 40" Wide and can carry up to 150 lbs. You can either buy the # TH859XT basket and add an extension later or you can buy them together as part # TH859XT-8591XT that comes with the extension bringing the overall length to 69" long!

I've used this cargo carrier quite often and I really recommend going with the Thule Canyon basket if you are concerned about safety and compatibility.

Just a quick tip! I recommend getting a Stretchable Cargo Net # C18201 to cover your cargo to make sure it doesn't go anywhere. Also, I know your CR-V doesn't sit up too high, but if you have trouble loading your cargo up on the roof, you can use either the Powerbuilt Adjustable Tire Step # ALL647596 or the Rightline Gear Moki Door Step # RL100660 to give you a little boost when loading up the basket!
