Fat Bike Tire Width for Use with Yakima SingleSpeed Bike Rack

Im considering a fat bike, but the tires on this particular model are speced at 4.9inch wide. The Single Speeds specs rate the rack for tires up to 4.8inch of width. Is it OK to go slightly over Yakimas spec and use the Single Speed for a fat bike with tires 4.9inch or 5.0inch wide? If anyone have direct experience and can recommend whether its OK or not OK, it would be very appreciated. Thank you for your help.

No worries! The Yakima SingleSpeed 1-Bike Platform Rack # Y02481 has wheel cradles and straps that can accommodate up to 5 inch tires. In my experience with mounting fat bikes, the key is the length of the straps. The straps are what secure the wheel down and some bike racks have cradles wide enough for fat bikes, but their straps are too short and don't wrap around the wheel.

With the SingleSpeed, your fat bike will fit right in as their cradles are not only deep and wide, but they have extra-long straps for that extra security. I attached a video so you can see the SingleSpeed in action with a fat bike in it!
