Recommended Hitch and Wiring for my 2019-2020 BMW X5
Question:
1 I assume the 2inch ball is interchangeable with a 1 7/8inch if I need it? 2 Im almost scared to ask my BMW service if their $1500 hitch option provides any functionality or electronic integration benefits that your hitch option does not. 3 I assume my local garage could easily install this for me as I have limited tools and even less aptitude.

The Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 76288 is a custom fit hitch for the 2019-2020 BMW X5 non M Model. The 2" is in reference to the size of the receiver tube opening instead of the ball size. Any 2" accessories like the Curt Fusion Ball Mount for 2" Hitches part # C45151 which has the 1-7/8" ball for you to use.
There will be no added benefits that I know of going with a factory hitch. Always good to check though.
Yes a repair or body shop would be a great place to have it installed. A body shop may be the better of the two because it does require them taking off the rear bumper cover and a body shop will be better educated at that than a mechanic.
While you have it there consider having them install the ZCI Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness w/ 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector and Installation Kit part # 119250KIT which will give you a 4 way trailer connector to operate lights on your trailer. This is also confirmed for the 2019-2020 BMW X5.
