This bag secures to your roof with straps that are run in through the doors, and they provide you with a secure connection to the vehicle.
If you wanted something slightly smaller, the Rhino-Rack Rooftop Cargo Bag - Waterproof - 8.5 cu ft - 43" x 31-1/2" x 11-1/2" # RRLB250 is also waterproof and connects to the car in a similar way. It's a bit more expensive, but RhinoRack products are extremely durable and the zippers can be locked for added security during your trip.
