How to Add Electric Trailer Brake and Lights to a 2011 Ford Escape Without Factory Tow Package

How can I get electric brakes along with lights on my 2011 ford escape w/o a factory tow package?

A good starting point is to refer to the two attached articles on brake controllers. These provide detailed explanation of the types available and how they install and operate and will guide your selection based on your specific application.

You will need in total three items to add electric trailer brakes and lights to your 2011 Escape without factory tow package: the Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring for the Ford Escape, part # 118551; a Brake Controller 7 & 4 Way Installation Kit, part # ETBC7; and of course a brake controller. I do suggest a proportional controller as these offer more precise performance than time-delay types, they self-adjust to varying terrain and also self-adjust to allow more mounting options. One of our most popular models is the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Proportional Brake Controller, part # 90885. I have attached installation videos for each of these products.

I have also included one other recommended product, dielectric grease, which will help to protect your various trailer connectors from corrosion.
