Can I Use a Hitch Extender With Thule Helium 2 on 2018 Lexus RX 350?

I have a 2018 Lexus RX350 and am installing a 2” hitch receiver in order to use a hitch bike rack, preferably the Thule helium 2 bike platform rack. If I don’t have the clearance needed to fold the rack as you described to the Honda owner, why do you not recommend the extender, please? If I don’t use the extender, what high quality helium platform rack would you recommend for my car that would not require an extender? Needs to be lightweight and tiltable. Thank you so much!!

Using a hitch extender like # HE6000 will cut your hitch's weight capacity in half which is why we usually don't recommend it. One of our hitches that fits your vehicle is the Draw-Tite Hitch # 75540 and it has a 675 lbs tongue weight. If you use it with a hitch extender, your remaining tongue weight capacity is about 335 lbs. The Thule Helium 2 Bike Platform Rack # TH44VR weighs 43 lbs and has a capacity of 37.5 lbs per bike. 43 lbs plus 70 lbs equals 113lbs which is within your new weight capacity.

It depends on the new hitch you are installing and its weight capacity, but since the Thule Helium # TH44VR is so light and has a relatively low weight capacity, I can say that you'll be fine with using a hitch extender like # HE6000 on your vehicle. I like the Advantage SportsRack Hitch Extender # HE6000 since it has different hitch pinhole options so you can pick and choose the length that best fits your needs. I recommend getting the separate anti-rattle hitch pin lock # HE6001 to deter theft of your bike rack and bike through removing the hitch extender.
