Compatibility of Curt 5th Wheel Hitch With Lippert Turning Point Rotating Pin Box

Question:

I am considering the Curt E16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch for Nissan Titan XD Towing Prep Package - Slide Bar Jaw - 16K Item # C16515-16026 I have a 2017 Nissan Titan XD short bed 6.5foot with the OEM goose hitch. My question is will this work with a turning point pin box and will it provide enough clearance when turned to 90 Degrees ?

The Curt # C16515-16026 would be compatible with both the factory puck system (as long as it's the 3 puck system, not just the factory gooseneck hitch) in your truck be as well as the Lippert Turning Point rotating pin box.

This being said, the Curt #16 uses a slide bar type jaw system, which will allow a fair amount of movement of the king pin once it's locked into the hitch. This type of jaw system is found on what I'd call an entry level hitch. This movement will result in a fair amount of clattering and banging each time you brake and accelerate, which is why I recommend the Curt A16, part # C16520-16026.

The A16 hitch uses a much nicer jaw system with interlocking jaws that hold the king pin much more tightly, allowing for a much better level of ride quality. If you're on a tight budget, the E16 will certainly do the job you're looking for, but I believe you'd be much happier with the vast ride quality improvement that the # C16520-16026 Curt A16 would provide.

You'll also need a wedge to prevent the pin box from rotating at its connection to the hitch. If you go with the E16 hitch, use the # 30861 wedge or for the A16 I recommended, use the # RP31016. Both these wedges are compatible with the Lippert Turning Point pin box.

In most instances, the Lippert Turning Point will allow 90ยบ turns with the recommended 4 inches of clearance between the rear of the truck cab and the front of the 5th wheel.

I've linked to product description videos for the Curt A16 and E16 model 5th wheel hitches.
