How to Install 4-Way Connector on Vehicle
Question:
Can I just splice into the wiring in the back and just run the pigtail over to the trailer . Will this work properly?

It sounds like you are asking if using the Bonded 4 Wire # 16-4B-1 to connect into your vehicles wiring and then using the other end to connect to the trailer will work correctly.
It could work with wiring in a 4-way connector like the Tekonsha 4-Pole Hardwire Kit with Circuit Tester # 18252 to fit your trailer's 4-way connector, but I recommend adding a custom fit vehicle harness to your vehicle instead as most harnesses add a converter box that takes its own power from your vehicle's battery and not pull power from your factory harness. The converter box also will protect your vehicle from a short in the trailer wiring that could damage your factory harness. If you can tell me the Year/Make/Model of your vehicle I would be happy to recommend a vehicle harness for you.
