There are a few options for trailer hitch receiver's for your 2020 Subaru Outback Wagon and the reason they look different is because some of the mount in-between your vehicles bumper and frame like the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C67JR which is a more low-profile design due to only having the receiver visible when installed. I attached a picture of the Curt # C67JR installed on a 2020 Subaru Outback for you to take a look at.

The other style mounts to the bottom of your vehicles frame like the Draw-Tite Max Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # DT73RR which makes for an easier install, and less trimming to your vehicle, but more of the trailer hitch receiver is visible when installed. I included a picture of the Draw-Tite # DT73RR installed and a video of the installation on a 2020 Subaru Outback Wagon for you to take a look at. Due to the easier install, and higher maximum tongue and maximum towing capacity I recommend the Draw-Tite # DT73RR. Make sure to check your vehicle's owners manual for your vehicle's maximum towing capacity and tongue weight, and use the lowest number between the trailer hitch receiver and vehicle.

For a wiring kit I recommend the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118467 which is a plug and play harness that uses a converter box to protect your vehicle's harness from being damaged. I included a video of the Tekonsha T-One # 118467 being installed on a 2020 Subaru Outback Wagon for you.

Since you are planning on towing you will also need a ball mount, hitch ball, and hitch pin and clip. I recommend the etrailer Ball Mount Kit # 989900 which includes two different ball mounts for a 3/4 inch rise/2 inch drop and 2 3/4 inch rise/4 inch drop, two hitch balls, two hitch pins and clips, and a carrying case. I attached an article that shows you how to figure the correct rise/drop for your setup.
