Recommended Hitch and Towing Kit for 2017 BMW X5

Hi- I am looking for a hitch for the BMW 2017 x5 xdrive 35i. Does the drawtite 75600 require a cut to facia bumper? Also, what accessories do I need to install beyond the hitch? ball mount, wire connect, etc? Thank you

If you're trying to decide between the hitches available for your 2017 BMW X5, I attached a link of our selection with a "Best" video at the top of the page. It has a great overview and comparison of the top 3 hitches: Curt, Draw-Tite, and Ecohitch.

The Draw-Tite Hitch # 75600 is great in terms of weight capacity with 600 lbs tongue weight and 6,000 lbs towing weight capacity. It does involve some fascia trimming with a utility knife. I attached a picture from the instructions showing exactly where and how much needs to be trimmed. There's also a video linked below if you want to watch the install process.

The Curt Hitch # 13077 has relatively the same install process and weight capacity as the Draw-Tite. The main difference, and why I prefer the Draw-Tite, is that Curt requires a stabilizing strap # 18050 when using hitch accessories like bike racks or cargo carriers.

If your priority is aesthetics, then the EcoHitch # 306-X7265 is recommended for how you can unbolt the hitch receiver when you are not using it. This results in a seamless look behind your car, no hitch in sight!

Whichever hitch you choose, when towing, you need a wiring harness, ball mount, and hitch ball. We have a nice ball mount kit # 989891 that comes with a ball mount that goes into your hitch and two differently-sized hitch balls. As for a wiring harness, I recommend the T-One wiring harness # TK47FR. You just need to plug it straight into the connection behind your tail lights, and run the hot lead to your car battery. Make sure to use some grease # 11755 on those electrical connections to prevent corrosion.
