Parts Needed to Add 7 Way Plug to 2016 Toyota Sienna to Control Trailer Brakes

Question:

I have a 2016 sienna. I installed a 4 pin flat plug on my vehicle that connects to my 7 pin blade adapter for the trailer. I didnt have backup lights or brakes on my trailer. I now want brakes and backup lights on my trailer. Whats the easiest way to convert or adapt my 4 flat to allow connection for my brake and backup line?

We do have all of the parts you're going to need if you're going to add brakes to your trailer, but you will need to install a fully functioning 7 way on your 2016 Toyota Sienna that will send the braking signals to the trailer; you will also require a trailer brake controller. If you've already got a 7 way and just need the wiring you can use part # 5506 which is the wiring without the 7 way receptacle.

If you don't already have the 7 way receptacle I recommend using the # ETBC7L for the 7 way connector; this will give you the correct trailer connector on your vehicle to use with the 7 way plug on your trailer. This 7 way is designed for use with wireless brake controllers like the Curt Echo Mobile # C51180, so there is no wiring that would need to be done inside of the cabin of the vehicle; this would be the best route since there is no brake controller adapter harness located in your particular make/model. The Echo is controlled by any bluetooth enabled smart phone running either iOS 8.0 or newer, or Android 4.4 or newer.

If you wanted to go with a wired brake controller, then you'll want to use the # ETBC7 to install the 7 way, which will require wiring the brake control wire into the cab of the vehicle. This 7 way can be used with a wired brake controller like the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195, which would be recommendation. The P3 provides proportional braking for your trailer, which means that the trailer brakes are applied in the same pressure as they are applied in the tow vehicle. This is especially helpful is providing not only responsive braking, but a smoother towing experience and reducing wear and tear on the brakes of the trailer and tow vehicle.

If you need a new 7 way for your trailer, the 7-Way Molded Trailer Wire Connector, 6' Long # H20044 you were looking at would be the correct replacement for this.
