Recommended Lightweight Bike Rack For Step-Through Frame Bike

I want a bike carrier for my Townie bicycle. I’m 64, short and under 100 pounds. I need something light and very easy to handle. Please send me recommendations for a carrier I can handle on my own- about 40 pounds max. Thanks

We have a few lightweight bike rack options to help you transport your Townie Bike with your 2016 Honda HR-V.

The lightest bike rack we offer is the Kuat Beta Aluminum Folding 2 Bike Rack # B202-2 which will require the use of Kuat Bike Frame Adapter # UB01 due to the step-through frame design on your bike. The greatest part about the Kuat Beta is that it weighs in at just 12.6lbs and is still very strong with a maximum weight capacity of 80lbs. The only down side of the Kuat Beta is that it will only fit 2x2 trailer hitch receivers, so will need a trailer hitch receiver like the EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver # 306-X7322 which is confirmed to fit your vehicle.

The option I recommend is the Thule EasyFold XT 2 Bike Rack # TH903202 which is heavier weighing in at roughly 45lbs, but will work with both 1 1/4"x1 1/4" and 2"x2" trailer hitch receivers. The Thule EasyFold has quite a few great features which the most notable feature is that it includes a ramp to allow you to roll your bike up on the rack as opposed to the Kuat # B202-2 where you will need to lift your bike up on to the rack. The Thule EasyFold will also not require you to use a bike frame adapter as it secures your bike by the wheels and not the frame. I included a video of the Thule EasyFold XT # TH903202 for you to take a look at.

If you don't already have a trailer hitch receiver I recommend EcoHitch Trailer Hitch Receiver # 306-X7322 simply due to the fact that it is the only 2"x2" receiver confirmed to fit your vehicle. A 2"x2" receiver has an advantage of being able to use more accessories than a 1 1/4"x1 1/4" receiver.
