Best Expandable Bike Rack Recommendation for 2020 Ford Explorer Carrying Carbon Frame Bikes

Question:

I need to get a platform bike hitch for my 2020 Ford Explorer. I have a carbon frame bike and 2 kids bikes so ideally I’d like to get a 2 bike frame with option to flex up to four when needed! Can someone please help me and let me know my options?!?

For carbon framed bikes you need to carry them with a bike rack that only touches the bikes by the tires since the frame material is delicate and easily damaged. So for that you could use the very popular and easy to use Kuat NV part # BA22B which is widely considered to be the best bike rack for carbon bikes.

Then when you are ready to expand it to a 4-bike rack you'd just need the part # BA02B and you'd be set.

I do have a less expensive bike rack option but in general this type of bike rack is just more expensive. The best value though is the Swagman Semi 4.0 with expansion part # S64698-99. This will give you the same basic setup but at a better price.
