Electric Brake Replacements for Tandem 3500 lb. Trailer Axles

Want to buy electric drum brakes for my double axle boat trailer. Believe axle is 3500 lb and current drums are 10 inch. Want self adjusting pads. I don’t know if the bolt pattern on the back plate is different between brands. Would like your recommendation. Thank you

To replace your existing brakes on your tandem axle boat trailer where the axle is rated for 3500 pounds and the drum is 10” in diameter, I will work on the assumption that the brake drum depth is 2-1/4 inches as is standard. These will work on the standard 4-bolt mounting brake flange.

The self-adjusting brakes I would recommend are the Dexter # 23-468-469 “Nev-R-Adjust” brake pairs. (You will need to order two pairs.) I have included links to an install video.

During the installation you will snip off the wires coming from the brakes or at the existing wire connector is so installed. To connect the new brake wires I highly recommend using heat-shrink and crimped butt connectors such as Deka # DW05745-5 connectors. (Get two packs) If you do not already have a good crimping tool I would recommend the Performance Tool # PTW30764 as they make good tight connections on the first try.
