Options for Connecting to 6-Way Square Connector of Dutchmen RV

Hi there, I am looking at hooking up our pop-up trailer which is a 1999 Dutchmen that has a 6-way square connector to our 2014 Dodge Journey which currently has a 4-way flat connection. I noticed that there is a 6 to 4-way adapter on your site Item number 30104 but says it is for Jayco trailers only? Would this still possibly work for our trailer? If not, is there a reason for why it would only be specific to Jayco trailers?

Expert Reply:

The Jayco 6-way square connectors use a standard connector but a unique pin out. So what that means is that the # 30104 could work for you but you'd have to cut the wires to match the different pin out which we don't have info on.

Or you could cut the 6-way off of your Dutchmen and wire a standard 4-way to it instead like with the # HM48030.

The 4-Way vehicle end functions will be oriented in the 4-Way as follows:

Exposed pin = ground (white wire on harness)
Next pin = running lights (brown wire on harness)
Third pin = left turn and brake lights (yellow wire on harness)
Last pin = right turn and brake lights (green wire on harness)

The other wires can be taped up and stowed out of the way.

Since so many more applications use the 4-Way flat, this will be the ideal option. But, if you do not want to remove the 6-Way on the RV, you can make your own adapter. You will start with the 6-Pole Square Trailer Wiring Connector Kit, # 37995.
