Hitch-Mounted Bike Rack For Step-Through Bike That Allows Trunk Access On 2016 Honda Pilot

Hi There I could use some help in determine best option for Bike trailer hitch. We have a 2016 Honda Pilot with a 2in receiver, and wanted to be able to access the trunk hatch with the bikes on. Want a 4 bike carrier as we have some kids bikes, road bike and a step through so I had been looking at options like Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE 4 Bike Platform, Yakima FullSwing 4 Bike Rack - 2 Hitches, Saris Freedom 4 Bike Platform Rack - 2 Hitches - Frame Mount - Tilting. Which one will actually tilt so the Pilot trunk can open. The swing one would work but preference would be platform so that dont need adapters all over the place Thanks

For your 2016 Honda Pilot, I recommend going with the Saris Freedom 4 Bike Platform Rack # SA4414B. This would tilt back enough to access your trunk and would not require any adapter bars for step-through bikes or alternative frames. The cradles allow up to 3" wide tires, but the Fat Tire Adapter Kit # SA4419 increases the maximum tire width to 5" if that is a concern to you.

The Yakima # Y02465 would work great and will be able to give you full access to the trunk, but would likely require the Yakima Adapter Bar # Y02531 for unique frame/step-through bikes.

The Hollywood Racks SE # HR1400Z is a great bike rack that would also allow access to the trunk. This is generally not ideal for step-through/alternative frame designs, however, it may work for your step-through bike depending on the model and design etc.

Also something to be aware of is the weight capacity between these bike racks. The Saris # SA4414B has a weight capacity of 60lbs per inner bike, and 35lbs per outer bike. The Yakima # Y02465 has a weight capacity of 40lbs per bike. The Hollywood # HR1400Z has a weight capacity of 50lbs per bike.

Overall, I would go with the Saris # SA4414B, as it would not require adapter bars and is the better-suited option for step-through bikes.
