Hitch Bike Rack Compatibility With Travel Trailer

Question:

Browsing thru list of bike racks that are hitch mounted. They all say, do not use on rv trailer. My 12 foot trailer has 2 receiver. Why will this not work?

Great question! Most hitch bike racks are originally engineered to be placed at the rear of a towing vehicle. There's much more increased motion at the rear of a towed trailer.

If a bike rack that's not designed for an RV hitch is attached to the hitch on the back of a towed trailer, the increased motion in the rack itself will rattle the frame much more than it would behind a towing vehicle, and put too much adverse force on the bikes.

You need a product that was designed for this specific application. As long as you have a Class III hitch on your trailer, the Swagman XP - 4 Bike Rack for 2" Trailer Hitches # S64940 is the best fit for your 2" hitch receiver. If your trailer hitch is only a Class II, then I recommend the Swagman # S64663
