Does Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch Need to Be Used With Lippert Turning Point Rotating 5th Wheel Pin Box
Question:
Hi I have a 2020 f250 short bed with 21” sides. Getting a new fifth wheel with a morryde turning point pin box. Do I need a slider and what hitch can you recommend. Thanks

A rotating pin box like the Lippert Turning Point will relocate the pivot point between the hitch and pin box 22 inches rearward, from the point where the king pin locks into the hitch jaws to the point where the pin box turret attaches to the 5th wheel.
This adds 22 inches of additional clearance, which will eliminate the need for a sliding hitch on short bed trucks. If you already have a sliding hitch, you can certainly still use it, but you'll want to be sure that the hitch stays in the forward-most towing position at all times.
Assuming your 2020 Ford F250 has the tow/prep package pucks in the bed, a stationary model like the Curt A25 5th wheel hitch you'd looked at, part # C16036 would be an excellent choice, and is what I'd personally choose.
The hitch features an interlocking jaw system which makes 360º contact with the king pin, for a smooth ride without much of the banging and clattering you'd experience with some other hitches out there. To prevent the king pin from rotating in the Curt A25 hitch, you'd need to install a # C16992 wedge, which Curt confirms as being compatible with the Turning Point rotating pin box.
