Question:
I do not like holes in roofs. Can a RV roof vent be installed on the side of a tear trailer?

Absolutely!
With that being said most of the roof vents like the MaxxFan Plus Roof Vent w/ 12V Fan, Thermostat, and Remote # MA00-04500K are not designed to be installed on the side of your trailer, and may leak if not installed on the roof.
Instead I recommend the Replacement Exterior Pop-Up Roof Vent # 9106 which can be installed on the side of your trailer as you can see in the included picture.
You will need 12 mounting screws like # 31071, and Silicone # 0160297 to secure the vent to your trailer and prevent leaks. Lastly the Replacement Ceiling Garnish for Redline 2-Way Pop-Up Roof Vent - Black #2756 will add the finishing touch to the inside of your trailer.
I included videos of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
