Brake Controller for 1991 Ford F-350 Traveling in Snow

I live in Colorado. I am looking for a brake controller for my 1991 F-350 which is the shop truck. Since I do tow in the snow from time to time, I want a controller that is proportional to my brake pedal position or hydraulic pressure like the factory one in my late model F-350. My concern with a deceleration based controller is when on slippery roads, if I lock up the brakes, and slide, the trailer wont lock up too because we wont be decelerating fast enough. What do you have that fits those requirements, and can handle the current of a tandem axle trailer?

Ok, so we do have a really good option for your 1991 F-350, and since you don't want a proportional brake controller that activates based on your truck's deceleration, what you will need is a time-delayed brake controller. What a time-delayed brake controller does is send out a pre-set amount of braking power, so if you are on slick roads like you mentioned and started to slide, when hitting your truck's brakes the trailer will still fully brake.

The best option is the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller # RED44FR.

The Tow-Pro Elite is a proportional controller for smoother braking, but it also has a setting for user-controlled mode. This means you will be able to change the power to your brakes at the control knob which you can mount wherever you like in your F-350.

Finally, if you don't have trailer wiring in your F-350, to install either you will need the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118316 and Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7.
